Kuma's West Loop
LDA worked on a design for this restaurant that would blend the existing theme with a new aesthetic, creating a cohesive and engaging space. The result was a bar and grill that conveyed a rock and roll motif. Centered around the artistic bar top, LDA included a system of metal stage trusses with colorful spotlights, polished concrete floors, and a coffered copper ceiling. To create an ever-changing space that reflected the visitors, the vestibule and bathroom walls are finished with chalk paint. The blended theme of old and new continues through into the furniture as well. The main aspects are finished in dark wood to illustrate the past, while a contemporary appeal comes through in aluminum bases and legs. Customers entering Kuma’s West Loop will be immersed in the restaurant’s culture while simultaneously enjoying historical Chicago.
